There is a beech wood nutcracker mechanism has been specifically developed for Steiff in the Erz mountains in Germany where nutcrackers are made as part of the traditional handicrafts of the region.  

To enable the bear to crack nuts there is a special screw-mechanism in the bear.  When a nut is placed in the nutcracker, simply turn the bear's head to the right and the nut is cracked.

Another Steiff novelty - this is the very first bear of its kind that can actually crack nuts!  This bear is made from a lovely curly, white mohair.  He wears a smart black hat with gold trim and a wool felt jacket that is adorned with shiny gold buttons, cufflinks and epaulette.  His jacket is fastened with a leather belt and the jacket can be opened at the button fastening thanks to a Velcro closure.  A fine bear to have in your collection for Christmas.
